FAQ

In the context of the work we do, a forensic engineer is someone utilizing their engineering degree to examine the soundness of a building envelope and determine which (if any) areas are damaged and the root cause of those damages.

North Star Forensics can be hired to write a report on the current condition of your property with the backing of an accredited engineer. This report can then be used in your insurance claim to certify the presence of damages or in any other facet and potentially as a documented current condition of the property.

The time frame for our report turnover is discussed upon initial hiring and can vary depending on project size and complexity. Generally speaking, our reports take between 1-4 weeks from job intake to finished report.

Pricing for reports is determined on an individual basis as the complexity between projects can vary greatly. For a quote, please call into our office or send us an email from the Contact page.

All our reports are going to have opinions and conclusions regarding the condition of the property. These opinions will be backed with accepted research and in-house testing to ensure no statement is made without justification. Along with that, there will be a full breakdown of our inspection and any useful accompanying data.

Additional Services: moisture mapping, Xactimate estimating, thermal imaging, core sampling, desk reporting.

North Star Forensics will work on insurance claims when hired as an impartial third party, but we work exclusively on behalf of the insureds.

Our services could be useful in numerous circumstances, but the most common situation in which we are hired is after an insurance company hires their own engineer during a property loss claim.

We are currently licensed in TX, FL, WY, TN, LA, and AR. If are services are requested outside of those states, there will be a slight delay in report turnover due to the licensing process but no additional cost.
